If you’re going to hire a copywriter…
you need someone you can trust

And what’s more, you need someone who knows what they’re doing. With expertly crafted copy, there are no awkward gulps or sweaty foreheads. There’s no message mismatch. No audience confusion. Nada. Just straight-talking, persuasion. From start to finish.

But I get it. Choosing a copywriter is not an easy decision. It never is. And every time, the same question keeps popping up. Taunting you. “How do you know whether the copywriter actually knows what they’re doing?”

Hey, I'm Lewis

I’m a freelance copywriter based in Ipswich, Suffolk.

I work with businesses and marketing agencies across the UK and write conversion-focused websites, landing pages and social media ads for them or their clients.

I’ve generated sales, leads, and high-quality traffic for over 45 businesses across the UK – including campaigns in multiple sectors and international campaigns that have run across 14 different countries.

I like to travel

Although Suffolk is home, I spend a lot of my time backpacking (and working) around the world. And whilst I don’t travel specifically for “career gains” (I like the freedom, challenges and new experiences it brings), it does help.

You see, copywriting, advertising, marketing – they’re all about understanding people. Cliche, I know. But true.

Exposing myself to new people, cultures, and even advertising styles helps me find compelling and convincing ways of showing what a product can do. It gives me more ‘mental resources’ to pluck ideas from. And more experiences to connect to.

I like old ads

Maybe it’s a blessing. Or maybe, it’s a curse… but we humans haven’t changed much over the past hundred (thousand) years. The motivations that drove our behaviour back then still drive us today. Sure, the outcomes might look different now, but they still come from the same place.

And the good news here is that this makes past advertising a gold mine. It encourages us to learn from the best. Absorb their persuasive styles. Their wit. Charm. Creativity. And then apply it to our copywriting today. I’m a firm believer that we need to learn from the past to make the future better.

I like to learn and share

In fact, to help get as much out of past ads as I can, I regularly break down, dissect and sorta ‘reverse engineer’ them to try and put my finger on why they were written the way they were.

It started as an exercise for a bit of fun. And has since turned into regular content I share online for other creatives to learn from. Of course, it’s just my take on things. But it’s helped sharpen my skills and improve my clients’ results.

If you want to see some of the breakdowns, click here. I post them in a newsletter every couple of weeks.

Businesses I’ve already written for include…

Copywriting that connects, convinces, and converts. Consistently.

So there you are, now you know a bit more about me… a travel-hungry, conversion-focused ad geek.

If I sound like someone you can trust and you’d like to explore working together, contact me below and request a copy of my portfolio. You’ll get to see some of my work in action and understand the reasons why some of it performed the way it did.

If you’re still here and you want to know some slightly less relevant facts about me, try these…

When life gives you lemons

A car crash prompted me to go full-time freelance.

Long story short, I crashed on my way to my (then full-time) non-copywriting job and decided that would be a good time to grab life by the *horns*.

I handed my notice in, down spec’d my car and used the leftover insurance money to keep me afloat whilst I grew my freelance business.

Engineer turned copywriter

I graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Automotive Materials Engineering. “What’s that?” I hear you ask… (you’re not the first, and you won’t be the last).
It, ultimately, looks at different materials (ceramics, plastics and metals) close up to find why they behave the way they do – and then find ways to improve them. And then, for me, it was this but tailored towards the automotive industry.

Egg chasing

I also played rugby for a lot of years. I played locally (including some time playing for Suffolk), had a short stint in Northampton Saints’ academy, and then also played for one of my uni teams.

After a broken jaw, dislocated shoulder, numerous concussions, broken teeth and a partially detached thumb, I decided to stop playing rugby and focus on other things.

(Whilst I couldn’t open my mouth much, I often drank meals through a Krushem straw.)
